How to harvest your cannabis like a pro

Watching your cannabis grow is surely a great experience. However, the most exciting moment comes when it is time to harvest your plant. But in order to enjoy the fruits of your hard work, you need to know the best tactics to harvest the plant.

The harvesting technique you embrace will certainly go a long way in determining the quality of weed you will smoke. Fortunately, these tips will ensure you harvest your marijuana like a pro thus you can be rest assured that you will smoke the best quality weed. Herein the best weed harvesting tips.

  • Know when to harvest

Harvesting is a crucial process, and thus, you should have the perfect timing in order to get the job done successfully. The secret to conducting a successful harvest is to look at the trichomes (short hairy looking things). To determine whether the time is right:

  1. The tips of the trichomes will swell and the tips will flatten to form the shape of a mushroom
  2. They will turn milky white
  3. The trichomes will turn from milky white to become brown or amber

If you want cannabis for recreational purposes, you can harvest the plant when the trichomes turn milky white. However, if your weed is for medicinal purposes, you should wait till the amber or brown colour appears.

  • Flush the cannabis

When the cannabis is growing, it will get build ups of minerals. These build ups may affect its quality and thus it is important you flush the plants. If you have grown the marijuana on soil, run clean water with a pH of 6.2 through the plants and wait until the water drain completely before running more water through the weed. On the other hand, if you have adopted hydroponics, run clear water with a pH of 5.8 for some days.

  • Clear the flowers

Cutting off the flowers should be done gently to avoid preserving the trichomes. Start by cutting off all the big leaves surrounding the flowers. After cutting the leaves, cut the branches from the plant by using a sharp pair of garden scissors or shears.

  • Dry the flowers

You will need to have a dark hanging space with a good flow of fresh air where you can dry the flowers. When conducting the drying process, ensure the flowers do not touch each other or bang into each other.

As soon as the flowers have dried up, they are good to smoke. However, if you are looking at enhancing the flavour, you might consider performing the curing process which is aimed at removing all the remaining small leaves.

The harvesting process plays a key role in determining the quality of the weed you will enjoy. Just like you were serious on the growing process, the same seriousness should be applied during harvesting. And with the ideal harvesting tips, you are assured of enjoying high quality and potent marijuana.
